Commitment to Local Labour |
 |
Should
a coal mine go ahead at South Bickham, there
are a number of benefits the local community
will see in the future. |
 |
Bickham
Coal Company
is committed to employing local labour. It is part of their employment
policy that a local, either contractor
or manpower, take priority over those
who do not originate from the immediate
area.
The
2004 bulk sample at South Bickham
saw a number of locals hired. They
found that working close to home and
in a rural setting were of great benefit
to them and would gladly work on the
Open Cut Mine should it be formerly
approved. Three of these men
are featured below.

Mark
Lorenz - Project
Manager
Mark was “on the ground” for
15 months during the bulk sample
in 2004. He oversaw operations
as project supervisor, but also
took on managing roles where required. Mark
has extensive mining experience
both in Australia and overseas,
working for both Indonesian and
Australian coal mines.
During
the week, while working on the
bulk sample, Mark lived at Bickham
South House and on the weekends
in Kilaben Bay. He noted that
the rural setting and co-workers
were a great benefit of working
on the Bickham bulk sample. |
